Liverpool "completely dismiss" reports that owner John W Henry is considering private offers for the club and would sell if he received a bid of $2bn.

Liverpool have "completely dismissed" reports that owner John W Henry is open to selling the club.

Reports yesterday claimed that Henry and his Fenway Sports Group were privately considering offers for the Merseyside outfit and would be willing to sell should they receive a bid of $2bn (£1.54bn) or more.

However, the club have now released an official statement insisting that there is no truth to the rumours.

"As loathe as we are to give a story of this nature a meaningful response, on behalf of the club's ownership I can completely dismiss this unfounded speculation," read a statement from a club spokesperson.

"To repeat once again, the club is not for sale, including any 'quiet process' or anything of that nature."

Henry purchased Liverpool in 2010 for a reported fee of £366m.
