Retired footballer David Beckham has been 'blamed' for causing house prices in a Rio de Janeiro favela to skyrocket.
The 39-year-old is rumoured to have splashed out on £250,000 on a home overlooking the sea in the Vidigal favela last year.
It is believed that since then, property prices have increased from £2,500 to around £100,000, which has sparked anger among some of the residents.
Thirty-year-old Eduardo Andre told the Daily Mail: "That's Beckham's house down there. They said the gringos would bring wealth to the favela, but I haven't seen any of it, in fact we're getting poorer.
"They're even kicking out favela people to make room for the gringos. There have been no benefits for favela people, quite the opposite."
Food prices and services have also reportedly been hiked up in the last 12 months.
