Richard Scudamore: Premier League wage rises "inevitable"

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore says that he expects player wages in the top flight to continue to rise.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore has admitted that wage increases in England's top flight are "inevitable".

UEFA brought in financial fair play regulations last season to prevent club from spending more money than they earn.

"It's inevitable. It will not go on across the board, but you will always see individual players that clubs are going to push the boat out to keep," Scudamore said, according to the Daily Mail.

"There are checks and balances and restraints with UEFA's FFP, and our own rules will inevitably mean there is some restraint. But on an individual basis, if a player is deemed valuable enough by a club, they will break their own wage policies."

Manchester United's Wayne Rooney is currently the highest-paid player in the league, earning £13m per year.
