The family of jockey JT McNamara release a statement revealing that the rider did not suffer brain damage after falling during last week's Cheltenham Festival.

Jockey JT McNamara has not suffered brain damage after a fall at the Cheltenham Festival last week.

McNamara, 37, has been in an induced coma since soon after coming off his horse, Galaxy Rock, in the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup last Wednesday.

"He is in a stable condition and his level of sedation is being reduced," read a statement released by McNamara's family today.

"Whilst his vertebral damage remains serious, he has not suffered a brain injury.

"His wife Caroline and family very much appreciate all the messages, cards and letters that have been received."

The family also said that there would be no further updates on McNamara's condition this week.
