Cheltenham day four roundup: Lord Windermere wins Gold Cup

Sports Mole rounds up the final day of the Cheltenham Festival as Lord Windermere takes the Gold Cup.

The final day of the Cheltenham Festival crowned Lord Windermere the winner of the Gold Cup following a dramatic finish.

The 20/1 shot rode to glory by a photo-finish in front of On His Own (16/1) and The Giant Bolster (14/1), who came in third.

However, rider Davy Russell had to wait for their victory to be confirmed as a stewards' enquiry was called due to suggestions that Lord Windermere came across On His Own on the straight.

Away from the winners, jockeys Ruby Walsh and Daryl Jacob were hurt during today's card, with the former being taken to Gloucester Hospital with a broken arm.

Walsh fell while riding Abbyssial in the JCB Triumph Hurdle, which was the first race of the day, while it has emerged that Jacob has suffered a broken leg, knee and elbow after he was thrown to the floor by Port Melon.

The horse is said to have been startled and bolted through the guard rail ahead of the third race of the day - the Albert Bartlett Novices' Chase.

With regards to the races themselves, the opening JCB Triumph Hurdle at 1.30pm was won by Tiger Roll (10/1), ridden by Russell, who was able to guide the horse to a strong finish in the final furlong.

Lac Fontana (11/1) edged out Arctic Fire (7/1) in the 2.05pm Vincent O'Brien County Handicap Hurdle, and after the drama of Jacob's injury, Very Wood (33/1) was able to come out on top in the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle.

The Foxhunter Chase Challenge Cup was won by Tammys Hill (15/2), and to round off the day, Don Poli (12/1) clinched the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle.
