Huddersfield Giants brush aside Catalans Dragons

Huddersfield Giants prove too strong for Catalans Dragons at the John Smith's Stadium to claim a 24-12 triumph in the Super 8s.

Huddersfield Giants have claimed a comfortable 24-12 victory over Catalans Dragons in their Super League Super 8s meeting at the John Smith's Stadium this evening.

Willie Tonga crossed over for the first try of the contest with 19 minutes on the clock, but the hosts soon hit back through Jack Hughes.

It was all one-way traffic from that point on for the remainder of the half, as Aaron Murphy and Jermaine McGillvary touched down within five minutes of each other to put the Claret and Golds in control.

Danny Brough, who had earlier kicked over two successful conversions, continued to add points from the boot by splitting the sticks with two penalty attempts.

With less than 10 minutes to go, McGillvary then found a way through for a second time to make sure of the points for the Giants, making Todd Carney's late try nothing more than a consolation for the visitors.
