Former Hull FC head coach Peter Gentle has cited long-term injuries as one of the reasons for his departure from the club.

The 47-year-old parted company with the Black and Whites on Tuesday following mass speculation surrounding his future after the club's record 76-18 Super League playoff loss to Huddersfield Giants on Thursday.

While he thanked the fans for their support, Gentle feels that progress at Hull FC was halted by injury troubles.

"In the past 24 months, the club has made significant strides in performance, training facilities, recruitment and player development at all levels, making the top six in each campaign, and reaching the Challenge Cup Final at Wembley this season," Gentle said in a statement.

"Injuries, including long-term absences, have hampered our plans on the field, especially in the Cup Final and the final playoff match this season.

"An outstanding memory will be the passionate support of the faithful fans for myself and my family, who have been made so welcome, and we wish the club all the best for the future."

Gentle had two years left on his deal at the KC Stadium.
