Dominant Leigh Centurions hammer Sheffield Eagles in Super League qualifier

Leigh Centurions score nine tries to complete an emphatic 52-12 victory in their Super League qualifier clash against the Sheffield Eagles.

Leigh Centurions put in a dominant performance in their Super League qualifier against the Sheffield Eagles to record a 52-12 victory.

Micky Higham handed the home side the lead in the 13th minute when he was able to find space in the Sheffield defensive line to touch down, but Pat Walker levelled the scores as he crashed over for a score.

The Centurions regained their advantage as Andrew Dixon raced past a defender to go over in the corner, while Ryan Brierley added a two-strike salvo in the space of two minutes to put his side in control of the match.

Sheffield regained their composure and brought themselves back into the game just before the break when Scott Turner crossed the line.

In the second half, Leigh quickly regained the upper hand in the contest as Liam Kay crossed over the line, while Fuifui Moimoi soon added another score for the home side.

Sam Smeaton kept the Eagles' slim hopes alive of staying in the match alive with a break-away try, but Brierley put the match away for the home side when he scored his hat-trick.

The Centurions completed the hammering victory when Tommy Goulden and Gregg McNally crossed the try-line in the final 10 minutes to take the tally for the afternoon to nine.
