Matt Giteau "thankful" for recall

Matt Giteau admits that he is delighted to be involved with Australia again as he prepares for the World Cup.

Matt Giteau has admitted his delight in being involved with Australia again as he prepares to play at the World Cup for the second time.

It appeared that Giteau's international career was over when he spent over three years away from the squad after being dropped in 2011, but the 32-year-old earned a recall earlier this year alongside Drew Mitchell as Michael Cheika opted for experience ahead of the tournament.

The Toulon centre told reporters: "It's a big issue for us but now it's been done and we are both very thankful that we've been given the opportunity to come back and be involved for our country in such a massive thing as the World Cup.

"Both of us have been to a few before and likewise we have been to speak to players from our own country, when we got the phone call to say we were in the squad from the players from the 1999 World Cup."

Australia meet Fiji in their first Pool A game on Wednesday.
