Andy Farrell: 'Australia game irrelevant to World Cup clash'

Backs coach Andy Farrell insists that England's upcoming clash with Australia at Twickenham will have little bearing on their scheduled meeting at the 2015 World Cup.

England backs coach Andy Farrell has insisted that Saturday's clash with Australia will bear no relevance to their match at the 2015 World Cup.

The two sides meet at Twickenham tomorrow, with the Wallabies desperately seeking a win after defeats to Ireland and France on their European tour.

Stuart Lancaster's side too are determined to end an underwhelming Autumn Internationals series with victory, but Farrell feels that both nations are still learning about themselves ahead of what will be a very different match at next year's showpiece tournament.

"Both sides will be very disappointed if they've not improved before the World Cup," he told BBC Sport.

"It's a vitally important match, don't get me wrong. Australia have missed out on a couple of wins in the autumn series themselves by a couple of points, so both teams are in a similar position.

"Australia will want to finish their season off on a high and we want to finish the autumn series on a high."

England have been drawn alongside Australia, Wales, Fiji and Uruguay in Pool A of the home World Cup.
