Cameron Redpath to make Scotland debut at Twickenham

Former England Under-20 international Cameron Redpath will make his Scotland debut at Twickenham in the Guinness Six Nations opener.

The Bath centre pledged his allegiance to Scotland last month and goes straight into Gregor Townsend’s team.

The 21-year-old, the son of former Scotland skipper Bryan Redpath, was called up for England’s 2018 summer tour but pulled out after suffering a serious knee injury.

Wing Sean Maitland and fit-again fly-half Finn Russell are among those earning a recall to the starting line-up, while hooker George Turner will make his Six Nations debut.

Russell missed the Autumn Nations Cup through injury while Maitland came off the bench in Scotland’s last game, against Ireland in December, and replaces Darcy Graham, who is not included in Gregor Townsend’s 23-man squad.

Turner will win his 13th cap in the absence of Glasgow team-mate Fraser Brown and Edinburgh co-captain Stuart McInally, who both have neck injuries. Uncapped Edinburgh hooker David Cherry could make his debut off the bench.

Matt Fagerson retains his place at number eight while Jamie Ritchie is back from injury to join him in the back row.

Richie Gray could make his first Scotland appearance in three years off the bench.

Townsend told the Scottish Rugby Union’s official website: “It’s always a pleasure to welcome a new player into our squad and we are looking forward to Cam Redpath winning his first cap on Saturday.

“We have been really impressed with Cam’s contributions in the time he has been with us in camp.

“There are a number of experienced players in the backline to help make his transition to Test rugby go as smoothly as possible, and he has the mindset and skill set to thrive at this level.”
