Stuart Lancaster "proud" of England performance

England coach Stuart Lancaster says that he is "proud" of his team following their 52-11 win over Italy in the Six Nations.

Stuart Lancaster has said that he is "proud" of his England side after they beat Italy 52-11 in the Six Nations this afternoon.

The visitors scored seven tries in Rome to give themselves a chance of winning the championship.

The coach told BBC Sport: "We scored some great tries and came here and scored 50, not many teams do that. I am proud of the boys.

"We were not quite in our shape in the first half, there were some errors but you have a Sunday to Saturday turnaround, [Billy] Twelvetrees hasn't trained all week, so it was tough. But we have a great squad developing and I am very proud.

"Overall we take the bigger picture, the Scotland, Ireland and Wales performances and I don't think many teams will come here and win like this. Things don't always go your way. Italy are a very proud side and they were not going to give it up easily."

England need to hope for a France win over Ireland later today to stand a chance of winning the title.
