London Irish confirm Brian Smith exit

London Irish confirm that director of rugby Brian Smith has left the club with immediate effect due to personal reasons.

London Irish have confirmed that director of rugby Brian Smith has left the club with immediate effect.

The 48-year-old Australian was expected to part company with the Exiles at the end of the season, but he has been released from his contract early due to personal reasons.

Smith took charge of London Irish for a second time in 2012 following a previous three-year spell between 2005 and 2008.

The team currently sits in 11th place in the Aviva Premiership table, 20 points clear of safety.

"My family has to be my priority right now which is why I have asked to be released from my contract early," Smith told the club's official website. "I have thoroughly enjoyed my 10-year association with London Irish and will look back on my time with fond memories."

Forwards coach Glenn Delaney will manage the side on an interim basis until the end of the season.
