Michael Jamieson 'motivated' by failure to win Commonwealth gold

Michael Jamieson says that he is 'motivated' by his failure to scoop 200m breaststroke gold at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last summer.

British swimmer Michael Jamieson has insisted that he is 'motivated' by last year's failure to win gold at the Commonwealth Games in his hometown of Glasgow.

The 26-year-old was favourite to scoop the 200m breaststroke title, but he was beaten by fellow Scotsman Ross Murdoch and was forced to settle for silver.

"It's important to use that experience as motivation," Jamieson told sportinglife.com. "Those memories aren't just going to disappear so I think trying to ignore them and put them out of your mind completely is quite dangerous.

"The only thing you can do is try to use it to your advantage and try your best to ensure you don't experience those emotions again."

Jamieson is expected to compete at the World Championships in Kazan, Russia this summer ahead of the Rio Olympics next year.
