Wales's Jemma Lowe aims to do one better in Glasgow following Delhi bronze

Jemma Lowe is hopeful that she can do better than bronze for Wales in the 100m butterfly after reaching the semi-finals this morning.

Team Wales swimmer Jemma Lowe is hopeful that she can earn a Commonwealth Games medal in Glasgow after qualifying for tonight's 100m butterfly semi-finals at Tollcross.

The 24-year-old secured a place in this evening's session by finishing second in her heat with a time of 58.61s.

Four years ago in Delhi, the British swimmer collected a bronze medal in the same event, but Lowe, who is competing in her third Commonwealth Games, has suggested that she is more likely to get on the podium in the 200m butterfly due to the stiff competition in the 100m.

"In the last Commonwealths I got a bronze medal, so I'd like to do that again or even better," Lowe told reporters. "You're always looking for improvement, so just want to improve from the last Commonwealths.

"The competition's a little bit higher in the 100m and because it's a sprint event, everyone's a little bit closer."

Lowe will compete in the 200m on Monday.
