Liam Pitchford has claimed that Thursday was the best day of his career after reaching the semi-finals of two events at the Commonwealth Games.
The 21-year-old combined with Tin-Tin Ho to beat Canada on their way to a spot in the last four of the mixed doubles, before enjoying more success with Paul Drinkhall thanks to a win over Nigeria in the men's doubles quarter-finals, and he admits that it was a battle to remain on top form throughout the day.
"I don't really know what to say, it feels amazing to get to two semi-finals," Pitchford told Team England's official website. "It was a tough day but the best of my career results wise.
"I was feeling tired towards the end of my singles match but we work six hours every day for these tournaments so adrenalin gets you through if you keep winning."
Three English teams reached the semi-finals of the mixed doubles, with Daniel Reed and Kelly Sibley set to meet Paul and Joanna Drinkhall for a spot in the gold-medal match.
