Roger Federer: 'Winning 300 Grand Slam matches is very special'

Roger Federer admits that it is "very special" to have won 300 Grand Slam matches following his triumph over Grigor Dimitrov in the third round of the Australian Open.

Roger Federer admitted that it is "very special" to have won 300 Grand Slam matches shortly after he reached the feat at the Australian Open in Melbourne on Friday.

The 17-time Grand Slam champion celebrated the milestone after seeing off Grigor Dimitrov in four sets to reach the fourth round of the tournament Down Under.

"It's very exciting, I must tell you," the ATP website quotes Federer as saying. "Like when I reached 1,000 [tour-level wins] last year, it was a big deal for me - not something I ever aimed for or looked for, but when it happens, it's very special.

"You look deeper into it, I guess, where it's all happened and how. So it's very nice. I'm very happy."

Federer will play David Goffin in the next round.
