Bernard Tomic thinks that his fine early-season form can translate to a big showing in his home Grand Slam this week.

Bernard Tomic has insisted that he is playing the best tennis of his career to date after reaching the second round of the Australian Open in impressive fashion yesterday.

Tomic looked composed and efficient against Leonardo Mayer in his first-round win, progressing in under two hours with a straight-sets victory.

The 21-year-old believes that winning his first tour title at the Sydney International last week has given him the confidence to advance this season.

He told reporters: "Winning [in Syndey] just changed me again and showed me what it really means to win a title.

"All the hard work I did showed and now I just feel a different person getting into this slam and I'm so confident."

Tomic has a daunting draw ahead of him at Melbourne Park, coming up against Nikolay Davydenko tomorrow before a potential third-round clash with Roger Federer.
