Australian Open finalist Stanislas Wawrinka has admitted that he did not expect to reach this stage of the tournament after his win over Tomas Berdych in Thursday's semi-final.
Sunday will be his first appearance in a Grand Slam final, and the player said that it would be good if his opponent on the day could be his Swiss compatriot Roger Federer, who faces Rafael Nadal on Friday.
"I didn't expect to make the final," Wawrinka said after the match. "I always try to improve and that's what I did here. I'm playing my best tennis; moving well, playing aggressively.
"Roger is the best player ever. He text me last night and he is happy it is the first time two Swiss guys are in the semi-finals. I told him for you it's normal, for me it's not normal. I'm going to watch the match tomorrow with some popcorn now that I have two days to enjoy this win and then get ready for my first final."
Wawrinka is currently the world number eight.
