Britain's Laura Robson is out of the Australian Open after losing to Sloane Stephens in straight sets.

Laura Robson has been knocked out of the Australian Open in straight sets 7-5 6-3 by American player Sloane Stephens.

The British teenager made a sluggish start to the match, allowing her opponent a four-game lead in the first set before fighting back to level the score, before another break point allowed Stephens to take the set.

The world number 25 served for the match at 5-3 in the second set, having broken Robson early on.

Robson brought up two break points, but was unable to take them, giving her 19-year-old opponent a match point, which she converted.

The Brit was hampered by a shoulder strain throughout the match, restricting her range of movement and shots.

Stephens will face either Kimiko Date-Krumm and Bojana Jovanovski in the fourth round.
