Kristina Pliskova beats Timea Babos to set up Jelena Jankovic clash

Karolina Pliskova beats Timea Babos 6-4 7-5 to move into the third round of the Cincinnati Open, where Jelena Jankovic awaits.

Karolina Pliskova has advanced into the third round of the Cincinnati Open with a straight-sets win over Timea Babos.

The world number eight cruised to a 6-4 7-5 victory in one hour and 42 minutes to set up a clash with Jelena Jankovic.

The duo were level with two games apiece after a nervy opening in which both players surrendered their serve once, but Pliskova gathered her composure to move 3-2 ahead.

The following five games were won against serve as Pliskova limped to a first-set advantage.

The Swiss hit back well against her Czech counterpart with an early break in the first game of the second set to lead 1-0, but Pliskova responded well with breaks of her own en route to a 4-2 lead, which proved unassailable as Pliskova held on.
