Cameron Norrie moves one step closer to defending his Indian Wells Masters title with a 6-2 6-4 last-16 win over the USA's Jenson Brooksby.

Defending Indian Wells Masters champion Cameron Norrie kept his hopes of back-to-back titles alive by seeing off Jenson Brooksby to make the quarter-finals.

Norrie broke the Brooksby serve right off the bat and stormed to a straight sets victory 6-2 6-4 over the American, who missed five opportunities to break Norrie's serve throughout the contest.

The defending champion will now take on Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals, and he admitted that the 18-year-old "whacked" him at the US Open last year.

"I love playing on this court, Jenson's so tricky and came out, but I with a game plan and managed to execute it from the beginning," Norrie said during his on-court interview.

"I got absolutely whacked by him [Alcaraz] the last time we played. It's not going to be easy but it is great for tennis to have a great up-and-coming guy like that. He has got a very complete game already but hopefully I can get some revenge on him."

Rafael Nadal also made it through to the last eight with victory over Brooksby's compatriot Reilly Opelka, and the 21-time Grand Slam champion now prepares to meet Nick Kyrgios for a spot in the semi-finals.
