Grand Slam champions Emma Raducanu and Andy Murray both saw their dreams of Indian Wells Masters glory come to an end on Sunday with respective defeats.
Raducanu had endured a marathon encounter with Caroline Garcia in round two before meeting Croatia's Petra Martic, who broke the Brit's serve at 4-5 down in the first set.
Martic ultimately marched to a 6-7 (3-7) 6-4 7-5 victory over US Open champion Raducanu, who posted eight doubles faults on the day and just two aces compared to her counterpart's eight.
After gaining a measure of revenge on Taro Daniel, Murray was edged out in a thrilling first-set tie-break by Kazakhstan's Alexander Bublik and was swept aside in the deciding set.
Bublik knocked the three-time Grand Slam winner out with a 7-6 (11-9) 6-3 win on Sunday, with Murray now set to focus on his wildcard entry into the Miami Open alongside Raducanu.
Harriet Dart is Britain's last hope in the women's singles at Indian Wells as she prepares for battle with Kaia Kanepi, while Dan Evans and defending champion Cameron Norrie remain alive in the men's tournament.
