Victor Azarenka calls her victory at the Australian Open a 'dream' and says she wants to raise the bar in women's tennis.

Victoria Azarenka has described her victory in the Australian Open as a 'dream come true'.

The Belarusian beat Maria Sharapova 6-3 6-0 on Saturday to claim her first grand slam title and become world number one in the process.

"I can't wait to be back next year, I've had an amazing month in Australia. It's a dream come true," she said.

Despite her delight at winning the tournament in Melbourne, Azarenka is far from satisfied with one grand slam and wants to raise the bar in women's tennis.

"I am proud of what I'm doing. I just want to keep going and keep raising that level."

The 22-year-old replaces Caroline Wozniaki as the world number one after the Dane's quarter-final exit.
