Kevin Anderson prevails in tight Rome Masters encounter against Vasek Pospisil

Kevin Anderson overcomes Vasek Pospisil 7-5 7-6(4) in two close sets to reach the second round of the Rome Masters.

South Africa's Kevin Anderson overcame Vasek Pospisil in two close sets to reach the second round of the Rome Masters this afternoon.

There was just one break point in the whole game and it was taken by Anderson to clinch the first set 7-5, preventing a tie-break that looked inevitable.

A breaker would be needed in the second after 12 holds and it was Canada's Pospisil who lost his nerve on serve, with Anderson coming through 7-4 to reach the last 32.

He next faces 11th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France.
