Great Britain's Heather Watson is out of the women's Olympic singles after she succumbed to Russian Maria Kirilenko in straight sets at Wimbledon.

The 20-year-old fought hard at the start of the opening set but Kirilenko broke twice to take control.

Despite Watson pulling one of the breaks back in front of a partisan crowd, the world number 15 broke again to take the first set 6-3.

The Russian showed her experience in the second as two more breaks saw her seal the victory 6-2.

Kirilenko's triumph has set up a third-round encounter with Julia Goerges of Germany.
