Kei Nishikori: "I couldn't play my tennis"

Kei Nishikori admits that Marin Cilic was simply too good for him in the US Open final, after emphatically losing in straight sets to the Croatian at Flushing Meadows.

Kei Nishikori has admitted that Marin Cilic proved too good for him in the US Open final on Monday.

The Japanese suffered a straight-sets defeat to the Croatian in under two hours at Flushing Meadows.

Nishikori has conceded that there was little that he could do to stop the big-serving Cilic on this occasion and is simply content with having reached his first Grand Slam final.

He told reporters: "He was playing really well today, I couldn't play my tennis. It's a really tough loss but I'm really happy for first coming to the final."

The 24-year-old beat Milos Raonic, Stanislas Wawrinka and Novak Djokovic on his way to the final.
