Venus Williams: 'Feeling relaxed inspired victory over Anett Kontaveit'

World number 11 Venus Williams suggests that a combination of feeling relaxed and holding experience helped her to victory over Anett Kontaveit at the US Open.

World number 11 Venus Williams has suggested that her dominant third-round win helped her to be more relaxed during her fourth-round victory over Anett Kontaveit at the US Open.

Williams made light work of Kontaveit at Flushing Meadows following a straight-sets triumph, and the 34-year-old veteran has stated that a combination of feeling less anxious and holding experience helped her through the contest.

"I played some tougher matches [this tournament]," Williams revealed on court following her win in New York.

"After playing well in the last match, it helped me be more relaxed today. Experience helped me today in knowing how to play today."

Venus will now take on her sister Serena Williams in the quarter-finals of the American showpiece.
