Kimiko Date-Krumm beats Alexandra Cadantu to make it to the third round at Wimbledon.

Kimiko Date-Krumm has made it through to the third round at Wimbledon by recording a straight-sets victory over Alexandra Cadantu.

The 42-year-old Japanese veteran, who is ranked as high as 84th in the world, had enough to overcome her Romanian opponent 6-4 7-5.

The former SW19 semi-finalist came out on top in an opening set that included five breaks of serve to move one away from a match with Serena Williams.

Date-Krumm continued to have just enough to keep Cadantu at bay in the second set, before she struck at 5-5 to take two games in a row and set up a clash with the world number one on Saturday.
