Jonny Brownlee sidelined with stress fracture

British triathlete Jonny Brownlee is likely to miss the next few months with a stress fracture in his leg.

British triathlete Jonny Brownlee has revealed that he will not attempt to rush his return from a stress fracture in his leg.

The Olympic bronze medallist has been ruled out for several months, but with a bid for gold in Rio de Janeiro his priority, he has admitted that he must be patient with his recovery.

The 25-year-old is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "I'm not going to rush it because next year is a big year.

"I'm obviously very disappointed. I raced really well in Auckland and the Gold Coast, and then was unlucky in London, so I was looking forward to a strong second half of the season.

"I need to focus on my rehab in the first instance and then gradually get back into some training."

Brownlee will miss the Olympic test event in Rio, while he is expected to be absent from the World Triathlon Grand Final in September.
