Team GB cross-country skier Posy Musgrave admits to nerves

Posy Musgrave admits that she had to battle nerves and the "slushy" conditions in her cross-country sprint in Sochi.

Great Britain cross-country skier Posy Musgrave has admitted that she was more nervous than she expected during her sprint qualifying round at the Sochi Winter Olympics 2014.

Musgrave finished 42nd, with only the top 30 going into the quarter-finals, and, as well as her nerves, she said that there was a battle against the tough conditions on the course.

"It wasn't too bad, I was definitely a little bit nervous before but I think that is normal for a race day, especially at the Olympics," she told Team GB's official website.

"Conditions made it tough, it has been quite warm, so it is a little slushy in places and you are working through really deep snow in places. Of course I was nervous. I think I am nervous before the start of most races.

"Nerves are a good thing because it means you are psyched up. I was definitely a little bit more nervous than normal but I think I handled it OK. The village up here is just cross country and biathlon, which is quite normal."

The event was eventually won by Maiken Caspersen Falla.
