Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has returned to practice following a car accident which left him hospitalised.
Newton was involved in the two-car collision early last week, leaving him with minor back injuries.
The injuries he suffered were enough to keep him out of the team's victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with which they strengthened their playoff hopes.
Though backup Derek Anderson deputised admirably, Newton's return to the practice field is a timely boost for Panthers coach Ron Rivera.
According to the Charlotte Observer, Newton threw passes and took part in drills, though Anderson still had more first-team reps.
However, should Newton prove his fitness over the course of the week, he could be in line for a return against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
