Jim Caldwell began his Detroit Lions career with a comfortable win as his new side recorded a 35-14 victory over the New York Giants in their season opener at Ford Field.
Calvin Johnson claimed a couple of first-quarter touchdowns after two throws from Matt Stafford as the Lions cruised into a 14-0 lead, and the latter, who enjoyed a fine game throughout, got in the act himself in the third.
Larry Donnell and Rashad Jennings scored touchdowns for the visiting Giants in the second and fourth quarters respectively before Joique Bell added his first of the new campaign for the home side late on.
The victory was the first time a new Lions head coach had won their opening game since 2003.
