The San Diego Chargers have reportedly set their sights on Frank Reich as their next offensive coordinator if Ken Whisenhunt leaves the club during the off-season.
Whisenhunt has been heavily linked with a number of head coach roles in the NFL and is said to be the frontrunner for the Detroit Lions job, having also had interviews with the Tennessee Titans and the Cleveland Browns.
The Chargers are reportedly resigned to losing Whisenhunt and have lined up current quarterbacks coach Reich as his replacement.
Reich has impressed this season having helped quarterback Philip Rivers discover his best form again as the Chargers reached the divisional round of the playoffs before being eliminated by the Denver Broncos last night.
Whisenhunt is reportedly keen to take Reich with him as his offensive coordinator wherever he goes, but the Chargers would make the final decision on whether or not he leaves the team.
Reich has previously had coaching spells at the Indianapolis Colts and the Arizona Cardinals, but is best known for launching the biggest comeback in NFL playoff history during his playing days with the Buffalo Bills.
