Team England's chef de mission Jan Patterson has predicted a bright future for the country's athletes following a "fantastic" showing at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Nine more medals were added to England's tally today to take the overall total up to 174, which is significantly higher than the pre-Games target of between 130-145 medals.
"We came with a single focus on our athletes," Patterson is quoted as saying by The Guardian. "Our aspiration was to put ourselves back up the medal table, which we've done and we are delighted with the style that we've done it.
"I am immensely proud of Team England. To come back after a disappointing time at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games has been fantastic. We smashed our target.
"The average age of our athletes is 24 years old, so to have a young group that is well experienced should mean the future is bright for us."
England won 142 medals four years ago in Delhi.
