LeBron James named NBA Players Association vice-president

Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James is voted the first vice-president of the NBA Players Association.

Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James has been named the first vice-president of the NBA Players Association.

The union was established in 1954 to represent the league's players, and is expected to opt of the NBA's current collective bargaining agreement in 2017, when it is next due to be discussed.

NBAPA director Michele Roberts told ESPN: "I cannot tell you how delighted I am, the union is supported by players across the spectrum.

"LeBron has been a force to be reckoned with among our players since the man hit the court. We have always wanted to have players of influence be included on our executive committee. It gets your attention."

Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul is the current president of the organisation.
