Joe Root hails England display after levelling up Pakistan series

England batsman Joe Root says that it is a "great feeling" to level the Test series against Pakistan 1-1 after a 330-run win in the second Test at Old Trafford.

England batsman Joe Root has admitted that it is a "great feeling" to contribute with the bat and ball in his side's second-Test victory over Pakistan at Old Trafford.

The hosts levelled up the four-match series 1-1 with a 330-run victory on day four of the clash.

Overall, Root scored 325 runs, 254 of which were in England's first innings, and he also took four catches and a wicket with his second ball.

"It's a great feeling," Root told BBC's Test Match Special. "It's about contributing to wins - that's what it's all about. Those two occasions at Lord's, it was batsman error on my part. I tried to cut that out of my game.

"It's the most controlled I've played. You've got to play the situation. It's only later on in the innings and this morning that I took the risks.

"I'm really looking forward to getting to Edgbaston [for the third Test] and hopefully put in a similar performance. The bowlers grafted really hard today and last night. It was a really good effort from all of the team. It sets it up nicely for the series."

Meanwhile, all-rounder Ben Stokes will undergo an MRI scan tomorrow after suffering a calf injury while bowling in the afternoon session.
