Jack Laugher and Chris Mears have earned Team GB's first ever diving gold medal at the Olympics, clinching victory in the men's 3m synchro in Rio de Janeiro.
The pair overcame the odds to top the leaderboard with a total score of 454.32, brushing aside favourites China with a composed performance from atop the board.
Defending silver medallists, Russian pair Evgenii Kuznetsov and Ilia Zakharov, fell away in the fourth round as they posted a disappointing score of 62.01 for their forward 2-1/2 somersaults with three twists.
Team USA's Sam Dorman and Mike Hixon delivered the surprise of the session as the underdogs performed six solid jumps to soar to the silver spot on the podium with a final total of 450.21, four points shy of Mears and Laugher.
Going into the final round, the race for gold had been a three-horse race between Team GB, the USA and the heavy favourites, Chinese pair Cao Yuan and Qin Kai.
All three pairings faced the same dive - the 4-1/2 forward somersaults - and the US were first up, setting the bar with a session-best score of 98.02.
Mears and Laugher were next up and rose to the pressure, delivering one of their best ever scores for the routine to guarantee them at least silver.
That left Cao and Qin - specialists in that particular dive - needing at least 95 to top the leaderboard but they faltered at the last, performing poorly on their sync for a mark of 83.22 and dropping down to the third spot on the podium.
