Arsenal 'decide against Carlo Ancelotti appointment'

Arsenal allegedly opt against bringing in former Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti as a replacement for sacked manager Unai Emery.

Arsenal have reportedly opted against appointing Carlo Ancelotti as the new manager at the Emirates Stadium.

While Freddie Ljungberg is currently in charge on an interim basis, the Gunners hierarchy remain keen to bring in a long-term successor to Unai Emery.

Having been sacked as Napoli boss earlier this week, Ancelotti naturally emerged as a candidate for the position at the Premier League outfit.

However, according to ESPN, Arsenal have no plans to offer the job to the experienced Italian, despite the 60-year-old having previously won England's top flight with Chelsea.

The report claims that Ancelotti does not fit the desired profile of the club's board, while indifferent spells with Bayern Munich and Napoli are also said to have lessened his chances of returning to London.

Ljungberg is expected to stay in the dugout for Sunday's encounter with Manchester City.
