Former Swansea City manager Paulo Sousa is reportedly a surprise candidate to become Arsenal's next permanent manager.

Former Swansea City manager Paulo Sousa has reportedly emerged as a surprise candidate to become Arsenal's next permanent manager.

The Gunners reportedly plan to interview 10 candidates for the role after making the decision to sack Unai Emery last month.

Sousa, currently manager of Bordeaux, has impressed onlookers this season by guiding his side to within two points of third place in Ligue 1.

According to L'Equipe, Sousa is on Arsenal's list of candidates for the post in North London.

The 49-year-old, who has also managed Queens Park Rangers and Leicester City, has a buyout clause of around £2.1m, making it easy for Arsenal to prise him away from Bordeaux.

Reports have claimed that former Valencia manager Marcelino was the first on Arsenal's shortlist to hold talks with the club this week.
