Vincent Kompany confident of Argentina scalp

Belgium captain Vincent Kompany invites quarter-final opponents Argentina to attack them and feels that an open game would give the Europeans a great chance of victory.

Vincent Kompany believes that an end-to-end game would give Belgium a "pretty good chance" of beating Argentina in their World Cup quarter-final on Saturday.

The Europeans will be hoping to reach the World Cup semi-finals for the first time in 28 years when they take on Lionel Messi and company in Brasilia.

Marc Wilmots's side have been slightly unconvincing in their progress to the last eight, which Kompany feels is because most of their opponents have adopted defensive approaches, and the defender has promised an improved performance and possible scalp should Argentina make it an open match.

"If Argentina decide to play their usual attacking game, we'll have a pretty good chance against them," he told reporters.

"You need two teams to produce an exciting match. The Americans tried to push forward. That's all we were asking for. It takes two to tango, and they wanted the same thing as us."

Kompany and his teammates needed extra time to beat the United States and progress to this stage.
