Gary Rowett "can't wait" for transfer window

Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett reveals that he "can't wait" for the transfer window to open in January.

Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett has signalled that he has funds available to make reinforcements next month.

The Midlands side have had a strong start to the campaign and find themselves on the cusp of the Championship playoff places going into the festive period.

Injuries have threatened to dent their promotion charge in recent weeks however, leaving them on a run of no wins in five, but Rowett is confident that he can bolster his options when the transfer window opens in a fortnight.

"I think we're in a better position this January," Rowett is quoted as saying by the Birmingham Mail. "Without getting people overly-excited I think we're in the best position we've been in for a while and I'm quite excited.

"I've probably not helped in some ways, but I almost can't wait for January to come.

"I'm not trying to dismiss the next four or five games and mean they don't matter because of course they do. But the point to me is that we'll be in a very good position to strengthen and with the players coming back it's quite an exciting time."

City welcome fellow promotion-chasers Cardiff City to St Andrew's tonight with the aim of moving to one point from the top six.
