Chelsea are allegedly giving consideration to approaching Crystal Palace over adding one of their star defenders to their squad from January onwards.

Chelsea are allegedly plotting to add a defender from Crystal Palace's squad to their own before the end of the January transfer window.

The Blues have been dealing with somewhat of a crisis in the middle of their backline of late with Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile sidelined for at least another month.

Although there have been mixed claims regarding the severity of Fofana's hamstring injury, Chelsea are down to three senior centre-backs for a number of weeks.

Academy graduate Josh Acheampong deputised there against Palace on Saturday, impressing on his first-ever Premier League start in a 1-1 draw.

However, it seems that serious consideration is being given to raiding Palace for at least one of their top-performing centre-backs over the coming weeks.

Chalobah return a possibility?

Despite previous claims to the contrary, The Athletic says that Chelsea have the option of bringing Chalobah back into their squad.

Since being banished from Enzo Maresca's plans at the start of the campaign, Chalobah has generally impressed on his 14 appearances for the Eagles in all competitions.

While Chalobah being recalled is far from a foregone conclusion, it is seemingly an avenue that Chelsea will consider if they deem it to be beneficial for all concerned.

Chalobah still has three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract, but co-owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital have previously looked to cash in on the 25-year-old to bolster the club's position with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules.

As per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are also prepared to consider a reunion with former defender Marc Guehi.

During the summer, it was well-documented that Palace turned down bids in excess of £65m from Newcastle United to retain the services of the England international.

Nevertheless, Guehi is now at a stage where he has 18 months left on his contract and there are no signs that he is prepared to extend his stay at Selhurst Park.

Although Romano adds that finding a solution would 'not be easy', it is an option that Palace will have to realistically consider this month or in the summer.
