Harry Redknapp: 'Glenn Hoddle perfect for England job'

Harry Redknapp believes that Glenn Hoddle, who managed England from 1996 to 1999, would be the perfect replacement for Roy Hodgson in charge of the national team.

Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has said that Glenn Hoddle would be the "perfect" replacement for Roy Hodgson as England manager.

Hodgson stepped down from his post in the immediate aftermath of England's shock 2-1 loss to Iceland on Monday - a result that sent the Three Lions crashing out of Euro 2016.

Hoddle was previously the manager of England from 1996 to 1999 before being sacked for making controversial comments about disabled people, but Redknapp believes that he is a better choice than Under-21 boss and current favourite Gareth Southgate.

"Glenn is your man. Why is Gareth the favourite and more suited? I think we have got the perfect man, Glenn fits the bill for me. He said something, but that was a long time ago. He deserves another chance," he told talkSPORT.

"I have got no chance. I don't fit the bill for them. The game is being run by academics. Dan Ashworth will choose the next manager again, maybe there's someone at West Brom we can get in again."

The likes of Eddie Howe, Gary Neville and Alan Pardew have also been linked with the post.
