Landon Donovan eager for USA return

Los Angeles Galaxy forward Landon Donovan expresses his desire to play international football again.

Los Angeles Galaxy forward Landon Donovan is targeting a return to the USA national team after ending a self-imposed hiatus from football.

The former Everton star is back in training at club level, and is willing to fight for his place in Jurgen Klinsmann's side.

"I realise I have a long way to go both on the field and off the field to work my way back into the national team, and that's my goal," he told reporters.

"If that's something that presents itself, it's something I want to do. I miss being a part of that and I want to represent my country again."

Donovan, who last featured for Galaxy in December, took three months out from the game to spend time with his family.

"My favourite part [of the break] was being home with my family. For 15 years I haven't spent more than two weeks at a time with my family so it was really nice to do that," he added.

"I was fortunate to have a lot of people both personally and professionally that also understood that. Now I'm excited to be back and to move forward and enjoy playing."

The 31-year-old has earned 144 senior caps for the USA, scoring 49 goals.
