Preview: Las Palmas vs. Getafe - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Friday's La Liga clash between Las Palmas and Getafe, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Getafe will be aiming to stretch their unbeaten run of form in all competitions to 10 matches when they travel to Las Palmas in Spain's top flight on Friday evening.

The visitors will enter the contest off the back of a 2-1 win over Almeria, while Las Palmas suffered a 1-0 defeat to Real Betis in their last match, and the two teams will now lock horns at Estadio Gran Canaria.

Las Palmas finished second in the Segunda Division last season to secure a return to the top flight, with Pio Pio operating at this level of football for the first time since the 2017-18 campaign.

La Union Deportiva have won five, drawn three and lost six of their 14 La Liga matches this season to collect 18 points, which has left them in 11th position in the table, just one point behind eighth-placed Getafe.

Garcia Pimienta's side brought a four-game unbeaten run into their clash with Real Betis on Sunday, but they suffered a 1-0 defeat in Seville, with Willian Jose netting the only goal in the 19th minute of the contest.

Los Amarillos are the second-lowest goalscorers in La Liga this season, only finding the back of the net on 11 occasions, but they have conceded just 13, which is the third-best defensive record behind Real Madrid (nine) and Atletico Madrid (12), and their defensive performances have been the main basis of their success.

Las Palmas have lost their last two La Liga meetings with Getafe, which came during the 2017-18 campaign, with their last success over the capital outfit coming in La Liga back in March 2016.

Getafe, meanwhile, will enter this contest off the back of a 2-1 victory over Almeria, with Mason Greenwood and Borja Mayoral on the scoresheet after Largie Ramazani had made the breakthrough early on at Estadio Coliseum.

Jose Bordalas's side are unbeaten in all competitions since September 24, when they lost 4-3 at Real Sociedad, and they have managed to win two of their last three in the league.

There have been six draws in their last eight La Liga fixtures, which has prevented them from pushing higher up the table, but a total of 19 points has left them in eighth position, five points behind seventh-placed Real Betis and six from Real Sociedad in sixth.

Getafe have finished 15th in each of their last three La Liga campaigns, but they were eighth, fifth and eighth between 2018 and 2020, so the capital outfit certainly have previous when it comes to finishing high up the division.

Bordalas's side have shared the points in each of their last four league games on their travels, and they have not actually managed to win a La Liga fixture away from home since the end of last season against Real Betis.

Team News

Las Palmas' Eric Curbelo on September 27, 2023© Reuters

Las Palmas will be without the services of three first-team players through injury, with Eric Curbelo, Alvaro Lemos and Fabio Gonzalez unavailable for selection.

Alberto Moleiro was brought into the starting side against Real Betis last time out, and he is expected to retain his spot in the XI for this match, with Munir El Haddadi going through the middle.

Sandro Ramirez and Marc Cardona are among the options to come into the side, but it would not be a surprise to see head coach Garcia Pimienta name the same team that started against Real Betis despite the defeat.

As for Getafe, Mauro Arambarri and Enes Unal remain on the sidelines due to long-term knee injuries, while Jose Angel Carmona is a doubt with the issue that forced him off against Almeria.

Greenwood is set to continue in a wide position, with the on-loan Manchester United forward scoring four times and registering three assists in 11 appearances for the club this term.

Mayoral has been in strong form this term, scoring eight times, and he is expected to be joined in the final third of the field by Juanmi Latasa, with Oscar Rodriguez on the bench again.

Carles Alena should benefit if Carmona misses out, while Djene Dakonam could be introduced in central midfield, with Luis Milla potentially dropping out.

Las Palmas possible starting lineup:
Valles; A Suarez, Coco, Marmol, S Cardona; Park, Munoz, Perrone, K Rodriguez, Moleiro; El Haddadi

Getafe possible starting lineup:
Soria; D Suarez, Alvarez, Alderete, Rico; Alena, Dakonam, Maksimovic, Greenwood; Mayoral, Latasa

We say: Las Palmas 1-1 Getafe

Getafe have been the draw specialists in La Liga this season, sharing the points on seven occasions, and we are backing another stalemate here. Las Palmas do not score nor concede many, and we are expecting this to be a very tight game on Friday night.
