Kevin Phillips delighted for Jamie Vardy after England call-up

Leicester City coach Kevin Phillips admits that he was delighted with Jamie Vardy's call-up into the England squad following his fine form towards the end of the season.

Leicester City coach Kevin Phillips has revealed that he was elated to see Jamie Vardy earn a call-up to the England squad.

The 28-year-old was rewarded for his fine form towards the end of the season, as he helped guide the Foxes to safety in the Premier League, by securing a place in Roy Hodgson's squad for the upcoming games against the Republic of Ireland and Slovenia.

Phillips is adamant that Vardy has the ability to enjoy success at international level and feels that the situation will not be too much for him to overcome.

He told the club's official website: "I'm delighted for him. It's a great honour and I've told him to grasp it with both hands.

"I had the pleasure of playing for my country. It's the best honour you can get and I hope he does himself justice.

"I'm sure he will, it won't faze him and hopefully we'll talk later in the summer about Jamie Vardy being a top goal scorer for England."

Phillips made eight appearances for the Three Lions during his playing career.
