Jurgen Klopp defends Liverpool team selection

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp defends his team selection after making 11 changes to his side for their 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has defended his team selection for this afternoon's Premier League clash with West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.

The Reds made a full 11 changes to their starting lineup for the contest, with the majority of their usual starters being rested ahead of Wednesday's Europa League final against Sevilla.

Jordon Ibe cancelled out Salomon Rondon's opener to earn a point for his side, and Klopp insists that the team he chose was the one best suited to getting something from the game.

"I decided what the strongest side was. The problem would be if we came with other players and they were already with their mind on the next game," Klopp told reporters.

"It would be absolutely normal, we cannot change this. If I come with the players everyone thinks I'm silly and if I don't come everyone thinks I didn't do the right job and I can't change it. I brought the best lineup today which I thought was the best for this game.

"We made a few changes - 11 - and it absolutely made sense because it's perfectly clear you cannot play here with 50% concentration. The young boys did really well and we played football. We deserved this point and it was absolutely okay for us."

The result means that Liverpool finish eighth in the Premier League table and must win the Europa League final to qualify for Europe next season.
