Lazar Markovic: 'I can be the best'

Liverpool's summer signing Lazar Markovic believes that he boasts the talent necessary to emerge as one of the Premier League's best footballers.

Liverpool attacker Lazar Markovic has claimed that he has the potential to be one of the Premier League's finest players.

Markovic sealed a £20m move to Anfield this summer after helping Benfica to a domestic treble in his one and only season with the club last term.

Success in Portugal followed a run of three consecutive league titles in his native Serbia with FK Partizan, and the 20-year-old says that he is well-equipped to help the Reds improve on their second-place finish from last season.

"I am ready to play straight away," he told The Mirror. "I can become one of the best players in the Premier League.

"Perhaps I am so confident because in every season I have played I have finished as a champion.

"I thought that Liverpool were the best team last season and, yes, I thought they should have been champions. Luck played a part in the outcome of the title."

Markovic is expected to make his competitive debut in Monday's trip to champions Manchester City.
