Daniel Sturridge says that Luis Suarez's absence did not put him under any more pressure as Liverpool defeated Newcastle United 6-0 at St James' Park.

Daniel Sturridge has said that he did not feel any pressure in carrying Liverpool's attacking hopes with Luis Suarez missing through suspension.

The Uruguayan was serving the first of a 10-match ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic at Anfield last Sunday.

The England international found the net twice in a 6-0 rout of Newcastle United at St James' Park in the Premier League this afternoon.

"It was a great result," the 23-year-old told BBC Sport. "It was important we went out there and played with the right attitude and we did that.

"I don't feel any pressure with Luis being out of the team. I came to Liverpool to play as a centre-forward and that's what I hope to do.

"I'm not going to say whether we are better without Luis or with him. When Luis is fit he will come back into the team and we will move on from this."

Sturridge joined the Reds from Chelsea during the January transfer window.
